GENERAL INFORMATION

St. Mary Mazzarello Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Jowai is a Catholic Educational Institution run by the Salesian Sisters. It is located at the heart of Jowai town, 1km away from the Deputy Commissioner Office Jowai. It is situated on top of a beautiful hill side. The Salesian Sisters reached Jowai on 19th March 1926. The House of St. Mary Mazzarello, Jowai was the first dwelling of the Salesian Sisters of Don Bosco in Meghalaya. St. Mary Mazzarello Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Jowai was established on 8th September, 1926. The School was recognized in the year 1974; it was upgraded to Higher Secondary in the year 2001. Though Catholic Schools are meant primarily for Catholics, but members of other communities are not excluded irrespective of caste and creed. Special attention is given to the Protection of children. Today the School has emerged as a renowned Higher Secondary School in Arts and Science streams. 

OWNERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT

The School is owned and managed by the Salesian Sisters of Northern India from the year of establishment. At present the establishment is duly registered under the “Mazzarello Welfare Society Jowai” and has its Headquarter at Auxilium- Nongthymmai, Shillong. The Institute of the Salesian Sisters is an organization founded in Italy in the year 1872 by Don Bosco, the great modern educator in collaboration with St. Mary Mazzarello. The International Headquarters is located in Rome (Italy). They are a worldwide organization that takes care of the young people giving great importance to their all -round growth and development through integral education. Today, the spiritual children of Don Bosco, (Salesian Fathers, Salesian Sisters and Salesian Cooperators and other members of the Salesian Family) continue the rich legacy he had bequeathed to them, bringing hope and love to the lives of millions of young people and lead them to the horizons far beyond their reach. Today Don Bosco’s unique Charism for youth lives on undiminished in the different parts of the world where Salesian presence is felt and touched through his Sons and Daughters.
